Fortyfive illustration-students of the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam will show a gallery-sized portrait of their city in the Zero gallery.

45 Studenten des Fachbereichs Illustration der Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam zeigen ein raumfüllendes Porträt der Stadt.
Der Titel der Ausstellung lautet "Wederopbouw", es ist ein holländisches Wort für "Wiederaufbau der Stadt" (rebuilding the city).Seit dem Ende des Krieges ist es ein besonderes Wort. Der Geist dahinter steht als Synonym für die Bevölkerung Rotterdams, eine ebenso positive, konstruktive wie bodenständige Haltung. Diese optimistische und konstruktive Haltung ist vergleichbar mit der Situation in Berlin nach dem Mauerfall.

It has been a special word since the end of the 2nd Worldwar. The idea behind this word stands for the character of the Rotterdam population, a positive and constructive down-to-earth attitude. A comparable, optimistic and constructive attitude may also be recognizable in Berlin since the reunification.
The exhibition shows a city, constructed of 100 carton boxes.
These boxes, individually designed by students, are a metaphor for all the personal dreams, for the longing of their own space and a safe bed in the modern big city.
The boxes are cut up, covered with paint, silkscreened, glued with photos and filled up with all kinds of materials.
This installation shows the city as one form, build on a variety of very different ideas and opinions.

The opening, Friday June 1st, at 20.00 h, will be attended by all participants.
